Text Box: 40th Anniversary Event for Project Tektite 1:
On Sunday February 15, 2009, over 120 Virgin Islanders and visitors attended an event held at the Virgin Islands Environmental Resource Station (VIERS) in Lameshur Bay, St. John U.S. Virgin Islands to celebrate the legacy of this historic scientific project that was conducted from February 15 to April 15, 1969. Sea Space Symposium members visit:
In May, 2009, members of the Sea Space Symposium met on St. John and a reception was held at the VIERS to celebrate the legacy of Project Tektite and its association with the Sea Space Symposium.  In addition to several presentations about Project Tektite during their meeting sessions, a dive at the habitat site was conducted. 
The Sea Space Symposium was formed in 1970 by aquanauts, astronauts and others interested in the advancement of scientific research and development in sea and space.
